Same issue: Initial flash, music, black screen....and HANG.
I did a full download just to be sure and it seemed to fix the problem, but then i went into settings to make EVE run with the lowest graphics possible (just to make sure it ran smooth) and now i have the same problem as before (after the reboot for the changes to take effect).

Ok so for those with the black screen issue: Try this- it worked for me as long as i did it in this order 1)Run repair (came up with nothing bad but bear with me) 2)Immediately go to the cache and delete the entire sub folder 3)start eve..accept EULA
For those that had it crash when they tried changing settings: First do not change more than one setting at a time before hitting apply and do not change your shader quality until after changing the LOD and texture first. Changing the Shader first resulted in a crash and then the black screen crap.
Not sure why the order of things matters...but after several hours of fiddling I am back up and running. Good Luck!

After playing around more I have found that if you disable eve-voice (after you get logged on) before you change shader quality it helps with Eve locking up...and thus having to start all over again. Additionally you can switch shader to medium first, close the setting screen, then go back to settings and change shader to low with almost no problem. I also turned off eve sounds just to run as skinny as possible for my first undock.... didnt help. I froze almost instantly once undocked and had to play this whole game over again. Still have yet to load while in space.
Incidently, I also just found out that I am unable to close Eve without having to run the whole process over again.
So I guess you can still play eve as long as you dont undock and dont mind changing the settings everytime you log on... or pony up for a new shiny computer lol

Originally by: steveid I just patched my test server eve to dominion and it now works. Dont know why, only that it does. Go figure.
How to do?
And does it require having been on sisi pre-dominion?

Delete "History" and "CCP_something_something" (its the only other item if you run Vista)
Start Eve Client

Tilbert-
Did you try logging into your character, disabling eve-voice, and THEN change shader quality to medium...then low? Its worked for me that way, not sure what difference it makes for the client but it works. Still cant undock nor alt-tab/log off without getting borked as far as i can tell, but maybe the logserver will catch something?
I was in the middle of using the log server to go step by step with all the problem times.... but if you already made and submitted some then I am not sure mine will be useful

Bolded the bit that seems most important. Forced my client into BSOD, then changed shader to 3 (high)... restart of client was fine (with the exception that my ships look like a 4yo painted on them...such is the case with shader qual set to high). Just have to figure out how to work around the shader quality issue. Going to try the driver from Intel, even though i have to force it because of the manufacturer making the driver "custom". BTW Dell's driver (the custom one) is not based on the most current Intel (actual chip)driver, so if you update from Dell you wont fix any issues.

I figure that's the case with Shaders on high while Texture is set to something low, not just shaders in general. I would think having shaders higher than texture often results in bizzare visuals regardless of game.
Actually it doesnt matter what the texture or LOD is set to, at least in my case, if the shader is set to high then my ships look like a VW microbus seen at a Grateful Dead concert...
